Why ochre?

So why have I called my company ochre? It is because as well as a graphic artist I am also an archaeologist and as ochre has been used over millennia as a medium for communication it is a link between art and archaeology.

Around 30,000 years ago red and yellow ochre were amongst the mineral pigments used for creating the parietal art found in caves. The image used on this website is from the Hands Cave in Santa Cruz, Patagonia and dates to around 12,000 years ago and demonstrates how this phenomenon was world-wide.

I have a BA (Hons) in Archaeological Studies, which I achieved by studying part-time at Bristol University. My area of interest is British prehistory and I am currently doing a part-time postgraduate research degree at Winchester University using lithics as a basis for establishing prehistoric activity in the Middle Thames Valley.
